Hi Arto,

No comments on the post itself, but I couldn-t help but to see that you're watching the SVT documentaries about music in the 70s. Great show!

I believe that, at least older, STBs use the DVB Program clock reference to adjust the system clock of the device.
That way the video and audio output would actually lock completely to the source stream.

But perhaps with newer devices no one cares anymore?

Edit: I realize it was some time ago I worked with this so I had forgotten what I had actually done :) You may refer to the exclusive mode full-screen toggle functionality. It is *not* part of any official MPC-HC build as it affects the general behavior of MPC-HC to some extent and I didn't want to introduce those changes until there was a real benefit (i.e. everything worked). The toggle works basically ok with non DXVA filters but not with the interna DXVA filter (and not perfectly with some other DXVA filter either). I strongly suspect that this has to do with either the design of the DXVA decoder or the way EVR is "hacked" to work on XP or both. Anyway, I got stuck and won't get unstuck without some help from a DXVA guy. -A

Great to hear that. Those mods should be in the main build since way back actually. I took a break from MPC-HC so I haven't really looked into it lately. Last time I looked the renderer was called EVR Sync. There's been some refactoring going on lately so that might have changed. Hope you find it! -A

Hey, I got your MPC-Hc build working at home. It is just awseomse. I hope these changes make it inot the main builds some day. I've got vsync dialed in and my display (which handles it all from 23Hz to 60Hz) now SHINES. I'm running MediaBrowser within MC7 and luanching your player mod for all my non-TV content. Just butter smooth, Thanks!

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. From me 7 has been outstanding. There is new behavior, but at least for me things like digital cable support without the need to buy an OEM machine and far better stability are worth the changes. I've got a quad tuner CableCard setup and it is awesome on Verizon FIOS.

Thanks for the encouragement and hint! I guess I'm a bit cranky because I recently upgraded my Ubuntu system too and was also in that case unable to spot the improvements. As a rather casual user of that OS (but with a lot of servers running including this WordPress server) I only saw the new bugs including a crashing mail app. I know these are two unrelated events but 2 similar events is a pattern right? When I buy a new pair of slacks, I certainly expect them to be less faded and worn-out than the pair that will be relegated to stable-use (although my teenagers seem to want it the other way around). Same goes with a new car. When I get an OS update I know I have to learn a lot of new (= different) ways of doing things, my old apps won't necessarily work, I need to work hard to restore all my favorite settings, and I often don't get much discernible value at the end of the day. So either I am getting conservative or there is something wrong with the product management of these products. Maybe it's a bit of both... -A

PS. To be fair, both MPC-HC and XBMC work fine on the W7 system since they use their own filter managers (or hard-coded filters in case of XBMC). And Blu-ray playback as such is ok although I miss a Blu-ray navigator. Had Microsoft thrown in that, just like they did with a DVD navigator way back, they I would have been less grumpy.

I understand your frustration with the new merit system! But once you get the right filters working I do think W7 is a better OS for media playback. The scheduling system seems better - less chance of other processes messing up smooth video. But you are right PQ is no better.

Updates should settle down. I've found it about the same as XP. The current burst of updates are probably due to the imminent arrival of SP1 (public beta next month).

Your PC really should not be waking up and staying awake. One of the definite improvements in W7 is it is much less likely to stay awake. The old CPU utilisation checks of XP that could be thrwon off by any rogue process have been replaced. Processes or drivers need to request the PC stays awake. If you get up and the PC is still running you should try opening an elevated command prompt and typing "powercfg -requests". This should tell you which driver, service or process is keeping your PC awake. Certainly the update service should not do that.

Getting good Blu-ray playback is a pain, but once achieved I still value the flexibility of an HTPC and the ability to have Blu-rays and DVDs stored on HDD over a stand-alone player.

Have fun!

Hi Mark,

I have so far done this only using the Powerstrip API (you can read more about it elsewhere on this site and the code can be found in Media Player Classic). For all supported boards this works fine. Unfortunately the newest NV boards aren't supported (last time I looked). I also entered a change request at the NV partner site regarding this and got it approved. This was before I lost my password and they never answered my requests for a new one so I don't know what the status is and I'm not holding my breath...

Cheers,
Arto

Hi Arto,

After much googling, I found your post on the nVidia developer zone asking for help in implementing a software genlock. Did you ever find out how to adjust the front porch programmatically, because I would like to do this too?

Regards,
Mark
