Obviously the discussion about free will (or not) has had a revival lately. I wasn’t aware of that until a friend today pointed out an article in a popular science magazine. It seems that a physicist and Nobel Laureate Professor Gerard ‘t Hooft has an idea about how to remove randomness from quantum mechanics. His theory seems to be that everything is caused by something else, also on quantum level, but we can not always see the causes because they exist in a “hidden layer of reality” that is so small that we can not observe it .
As I wrote in my previous post, I can’t see how randomness would create any free will either so strictly speaking my standpoint isn’t affected by these new ideas. The absence of randomness would make me feel even more comfortable with my view though.
